I agree with LVH. This is a great set up for painting! Looks like good lighting too. I mostly paint outside when I can and the thing I struggle with the most is good lighting when it becomes late afternoon. The surface gets a hard glare and it the becomes difficult to distinguish shades of a color when mixing and melting! But this set up looks like good, strong lighting and proper ventilation
Great studio space, LinearColour! Is it in a sort of shed outside? And I like that you allow “little people” to use the space too. (I saw the easel and some creative work in action there!)
thankyou for posting the photo’s newbyart..yes my studio is outside, i find that i can’t really work in a room in the house as i find myself still thinking about what needs to be done in there such as housework, and also the distractions of my 2 teenagers- music etc…. with having it outside it feels like a completly different entity, “a room of ones own..” it is a site shed that we bought (24 foot x 12 foot) and it is perfect has all power set up, 4 power points , 2 ceiling fluro lights, airconditioner if required in our very hot summers ,2 doors and 2 windows for ventilation although i will look at putting an exhaust fan in the roof because of my printmaking(etching) and the encaustic fumes..as for the ” little people” i have always encouraged my children to come in an play?experiment whilst im working (if i can’t get the time on my own ) and i have found that if they grow up with it from a very young age it is just second nature to them and they aren’t really that distracting, in the photo is my 2 year old little man (rueben), he has his own easle and canvases as well as a drawer full of different goodies to amuse him..just have to turn a blind eye at times to the mess made..but they are only little for a very short while and it has to be treasured and taken 1 day at a time, i just don’t set my daily goals to high as to what i produce, otherwise frustratin kicks in ,i learnt that a long time ago with my other 2 children, that are now 17 & 14…i put my hand up to any artist mother that also has children at home and needs to be either a wife , mother & everything that comes with having a family and producing art work at the same time….cheers from Australia…
hi catherine,
great space and lots of great materials. i too have 3 children at home and have found having my studio on the main floor the only way to get work done daily. I am easily accessible to all and can hear EVERYTHING. my kids have an art space on the second floor and can work away happily for an hour or two at a time…i really enjoyed seeing your work space and hope others will share photos as well…beth
Wonderful workspace Catherine. I have gone back and forth with the idea of building a studio in our back yard. Sometimes I think it would be great to just “go” to work. I have a 16 year old boy and let’s just say football is the music of choice right now. Great pictures..very inpsiring. thank you for sharing.
Amy (Colorworks)…your studio space set up is great! I’m drooling over all your panels. I need to make a good stash too. I often run out and then I’m stuck until I make more! I love seeing other encaustic artists palettes too. Aren’t they sometimes works in and of themselves? With the blending and mixing of colors and containers?
Thanks so much! I use only reclaimed recycled wood for my panels, so sometimes I have a lot and then there are lean times. But my dad is a woodworker so I can use his shop to cut my own panels, which helps tremendously!
how do we send photos to post to the gallery on this blog…thanks caterina
